Abstract
Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) or commonly referred to as stress-corrosion cracking is a term used for intergranular or transgranular cracking in metals caused by combining activities between static tensile stresses and special environments that cause corrosion. In this study it was intended to determine the corrosion rate of brass material with variations in tensile loading in the media of acetic acid and sulfuric acid. This test uses a Stress Corrosion Cracking test, to create a test specimen condition to obtain a tensile load of 10 kg, 20 kg, 30 kg in a corrosive environment. From the results of the study showed that specimen 5 experienced the highest corrosion rate of 2.796mm / y. That is because the fifth experiment experienced the heaviest load of 30 kg and also the corrosion media of sulfuric acid. it was clearly seen a significant increase compared to specimen 4 with a load equal to 30 kg in acetic acid media. This shows that the corrosion rate is greater in specimens using sulfuric acid media than acetic acid. From the results of the calculation of the corrosion rate, the corrosion rate will be even greater if the load imposed on the specimen is also getting bigger. .
