Abstract

This study aims to identify Defamiliarization in the novel The Little Prince by Antoine the Saint Exupery. This study adopts theory of Art as thinking in Images in Essay- Art as Device exposed by Formalist, Viktor Skhlovsky. The research questions presented in this thesis are what defamiliarization is and how it is illustrated in the Little Prince. Qualitative and descriptive methods are applied in analyzing the topic to reach the research goal. The data source are mainly taken from Antoine de Saint Exupery’s The Little Prince (1943) that translated from French by Irene Testot – Ferry and published by Wordsworth Editions in 1995. This research consisted of 25 data of text which have the meaning of defamilarization behind the automatism of perception. The defamiliarization interpertation on the text is the result of the analysis
