Abstract

The enthusiasm of the citizens in an effort to socialize their support in the general election can be said to be very large, this can be seen in the orientation of the participants in socializing the supported candidates, as during the campaign for a candidate for a leader that the citizens support, the enthusiasm of the citizens is very large. The level of citizen participation in the General Election (Election) can be regarded as an advancement of citizens' political culture. In practice the opinion leader theory is used in the influence of kyai and santri in Islamic boarding schools. A democratic state opens up opportunities for all parties to take part in the political decision-making process as influential citizens. While the totalitarian gives the main task as a participant. Although in reality the form of participatory democracy is also part of a totalitarian pattern of participation, both in a formal and functional sense, because the democratic form of a participatory system is in accordance with the compatibility of political culture with it. This study was conducted to describe how the influence of kyai and santri in the presidential election 01 in North Surabaya, especially in the Islamic boarding school Raudlatul muta'allimin Lilbanat Al Utsmani. The method used is qualitative with data collection in the form of observation, interviews and documentation. In the results of the study, it is known that the kyai in the Islamic boarding school is becoming a kyai as a political mediator, because there is no connection between the kyai in the Islamic boarding school who go directly to political parties. The habit of the kyai in the Islamic boarding school becomes a role model for the students because he shows the nature and attitude of a role model and deserves to be a role model, so that the students at the Raudlatul muta'allimin Lilbanat Al Uthmani Islamic boarding school really admire the kyai for this.
